Every Thursday of the School Term

Be guided through the development and presentation of your HSC Major work by a tutor who received a band 6 for HSC Art and Exhibited in the Art Express Exhibition. Students will receive assistance will all elements of their HSC Major work including, production of major artwork, presentation of work, visual art diary and theory.

Social Painting Club

Social painting Club runs every Wednesday from 1:00pm - 3:00pm and every Thursday 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

Perfect for those wanting to work on their own piece in the company of other artists and enjoy a beverage of choice. An art tutor is available to assist with projects.

Wednesdays is a more mature painting group.

Acrylic Painting Beginners Crash Course

Dates: Saturday February 17, 2024

Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM

The perfect class for the complete beginner or experienced artist looking to refresh their skills.

This workshop combines 3 of our most popular classes into an immersive one-day masterclass.

Students will learn:

* Colour mixing and colour fundamentals
* Brush and equipment basics
* Peliminary drawing and surface preparation
* Paint application and mixing techniques
* Identifying tone
* Creating 3 dimensional form using paint

Students will complete a series of small studies before completing a small acrylic painting on canvas.

Traditional Still-life Painting

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Dates: February 15th, 22, 29 & March 7.

Be guided step-by-step as to the techniques and methods used to create the perfect traditional still life painting using oils.

Students will work on the same painting over 4 weeks.

Students will learn: 

* Canvas preparation
* How to approach preliminary sketching for more complex
compositions
* Blocking in techniques
* Building contrast and tone
* Using transparent and opaque paints
* Creating the illusion of light and shadow
* Creating different surface finishes - eg. Glass, timber and
organic.

Water Colour Class with Amanda Morton

TIME: 6pm - 8PM

Dates: 14, 21 & 28 March

Split over three lessons as follows:

Lesson 1. Learn about brushes, paper and other useful equipment for watercolor painting. In this lesson students will explore how to create a wash, paint wet on wet, glaze and other simple techniques and tips.

Lesson 2 & 3. Painting a landscape using techniques taught in lesson 1. Students will learn about the importance of planning ahead, knowing where you want soft and hard edges and how to establish light.

French Impressionist Landscape Painting

Time: 10:00AM - 12:00PM

Dates: Saturday March 9 & 16

This class is perfect for the complete beginner or students wanting to expand their knowledge of landscape painting.  

With a focus on French Impressionism, students will learn how to use colour to create light depth in landscape painting.

In this class students will be guided on how to identify light and its movement throughout a landscape while learning colour mixing techniques, paint application, building texture and movement and creating atmosphere.

Whilst completing a painting study over 2 sessions students will learn: 

* To capture light using colour
* To create atmosphere in landscape using light
* Develop transitions between light and shadow
* Create the illusion of depth in landscape
* Create the illusion of three dimensional forms in landscape

Oil Painting - Beginners Crash Course

Learn the fundamentals of oil painting in this one-day masterclass!

Students will learn the properties of oil paint and oil painting equipment, how to prepare a surface, how to mix colour, blending techniques, paint application, and how to work with solvents and oils. Students will complete a number of studies giving them a rounded introduction to the versatility of oil painting.

Painting Water & Reflections

Let’s warm up Autum by painting beautiful landscapes of the sea. Witha focus on the use of colour to create warmth and light, students will complete a guided oil painting inspired by works of Alexander Averin.

Too much fun!!

This class inspired by a local exhibition, gives students the opportunity to select a famous painting and work on an interpretation or reproduction of that piece with the assistance of a tutor.

Degas, Cezanne, Chagall and Picasso all spent time in the Louvre studying the works of the Masters. Paul Cezanne said: “the Lovure is a book from which one can learn to read”. A tradition dating back to 1793, aspiring artists would carry their easels to the Louvre and copy paintings of the masters.  

By copying a work, you are forced to understand what is in it, how the artist created it, its brushstrokes, colours, light and movement. 

Canvases are not included.

Painting Boobs

Why are artists so obsessed with painting boobs?
Surely it comes from their appreciation of the glorious female form and everything it represents.

From the soft skinned realism of classical painters to the expressionistic forms of Modigliani artists have been painting boobs for centuries.

This fun 1 day class is a celebration of the wonderful female form. While a laugh is guaranteed, students will also learn several drawing and paint techniques and finish the day with a series of small studies and a beautiful paining.

Contemporary Still Life Painting

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Dates: Thursday July 25, June 1, 8 & 15

Students will compose their own contemporary still life painting. Students will be introduced to contemporary still life painters and will explore elements of design in the construct of their painting.

Portraiture Painting Crash Course

Dates: Saturday 10 & 17 August
Times:

Students will learn the fundamental building blocks required to create a portrait. This crash course covers:

* Canvas Preparation

* Creating 3-dimensional Form
* Basic dos and don’ts in portrait painting

Students will produce an Australian Landscape painting under the guidance of a tutor. This class will focus on the colours and textures within the Australian Landscape.

Classical Figure Study

Dates: Thursday October 17, 24, 31 & November 7.

Using techniques of the Old Masters, Students will complete a small study of a classical figure under the guidance of a tutor.

Mini Master

Times: 10AM - 3:30PM

Dates: Saturday 8 June and a second session on 9 November.

A super fun class, designed for laughs and bulk painting!

Students will complete a series of mini still life paintings that will each be completed over 1.5 hours. Students will leave with 3 - 4 still life paintings.

Students will learn multiple painting techniques in this quick passed, must do class!

Absolutely perfect for the beginner artist through to the experienced painter.

Easy Peasy - Colour & Painting for the Complete Beginner

One of our most popular classes, Colour Fundamentals is perfect for the complete beginner or experienced artist wanting to develop their understanding of colour. Learn the basic elements of the colour wheel and how to mix and blend colour using primary colours. Explore pastels and vibrant pigments. Learn how to create form using basic tones, colour harmonies, warm and cool colours, colour to create mood, using colour as light.

Refunds and Cancellations

Please note that payment for each specialty class is required one week prior to the course commencement date. Payment must be made in full. In the event that a student is unable to make class, an additional class time or ‘make up class’ will be arranged. A class requires a minimum of five students to run. In the event that your class is not running, you may be awarded a credit to spend on an alternate class or be notified with your class is running. Classes will not be refunded.
